Dear Hillside Families,

Welcome back for the 2020-2021 school year!  We hope you enjoyed a mostly smoke free, restful summer spending time with family and friends.  It continues to be a true privilege and honor to serve as the principal of such an exemplary and student-centered learning community.

I am sure many of you have had multiple opportunities to think about, hear about, and discuss what this school year may or may not look like. While there are still so many moving and changing parts, I am certain of one thing - together we will accomplish great things!

Per our Governor's mandate, we will begin our school year doing Comprehensive Distance Learning until we are able to meet the COVID-19 metrics for Jackson County.  Students will begin school virtually on September 21st. Next week, after the teachers return, we will be sending out our draft student schedules. Teacher assignments will be visible in ParentVue after August 31.

This summer, many staff members attended specialized training to learn strategies to optimize students’ academic and social growth. This year we will continue to incorporate AVID

(Advancement Via Individual Determination) strategies to work towards our goal of all students becoming college and career ready. We will provide rigorous instruction, and engage students by making learning joyful.

We encourage you to check our school webpage and your email to stay informed about event dates and times.

The wonderful Hillside staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We are energized and committed to making this a fantastic school year. We look forward to all of the exciting adaptive challenges and celebrations that the 2020-2021 school year will bring to us all. Enjoy the remainder of your summer!

Gracias,
